Apple Podcasts Redesign
BENCHMARKING
To determine possible areas of improvement, I researched the work of competitors. I looked at Apple, Spotify, and Overcast.
I noticed trends in how each platform prioritizes the discovery of new shows. Apple and Spotify heavily promoted shows, and much real estate was spent on shows that the user hadn’t listened to.
Overcast focused on the user’s followed shows, and new shows were much less prominent. Instead, there were ways to organize your shows and custom playback settings could be used from podcast to podcast.
PERSONA
Alan listens to podcasts amidst a busy schedule, and hopes to save time in order to fit a podcast episode in during his lunch breaks.
PROTOTYPING
Sketches focused on individual shows, and having the option to quickly listen to recent episodes.
It also focused on readily apparent downloads, ensuring that users know the amount of data being allocated to their different shows.
